Welcome to the Summer edition of the SDRC newsletter :-)
Once again members have been out & about training & competing with their horses. I hope many have you have been taking a look at the website to read the news as it happens.
If you have any results or articles you would like me to include please contact me at the email below. It would be great to have contact from new and old members, so even if we don't get to meet at clinics we can still keep updated with your achievements.
I look forward to hearing all your news. Sally Humphries

Although Becca Bell is not a member of SDRC, I think she deserves a mention for her achievements this year. She has been selected for the GB Pony Team at this year's European Dressage Competition. Although she has a number of trainers, many thanks go to both Caron Roberts & Helen Vitale for their excellent work. We at SDRC are very lucky to have such dedicated trainers to coach us to our full potential.

Combined Training Champs
It was with much disappointment that our girls who qualified for the combined training champs did not get to demonstrate their abilities. Sarah Tingey on Kittilla Lad, Nicola Allen on Skehard Grey, Demi Davis on Stella Luminosa & Laura Wall Meacham Reality were all looking forward to attending the Equilibrium championships at the end of May. However due to the continual wet weather we had experienced this year the event was cancelled from waterlogged ground & in the interest of safety. I think we can agree it was the most sensible decision but still disappointing for the team. There is always next year!!
Members Continue To Impress
Many members have been out competing this year in all forms of equine disciplines. Dressage has excelled, Sue Foord & Jazz doing particularly well with high scores of over 70% & qualifying for the Badminton Dressage Event. Lindsay & Hooch have been on consistent form as have Toni & Top Cat. The whole of the Davis family, Nic, Demi & Lowenna are regular competitors; Demi turning a hoof to all events and bringing home the rosettes on her lovely mare Stella.
Livvy Hoyland & Tam Thornton once again are usually placed in the top three at BE. Amber Dunham & Red show that an ex-racehorse can make a fabulous riding club horse. Other members such as Charlotte Webb & Jen Young are pushing out of their comfort zone and starting to get excellent results. Please ALL members keep me informed of your progress at firstname.lastname@example.org
It has been fantastic to have so many reports to put on the website regarding various clinics & demos that members have been attending.
The variety of clinics have had an enthusiastic response usually being filled very quickly. Please make sure that when you book a clinic that you do confirm with an email or FB message to Caron & Please Please pay before the day. This is now easily done via paypal, though cheques & cash are always welcome.
Clinics such as pole work, flat work, show jumping, grid work, xc training & Tiny Tots are all their for members to take advantage of. If you have any further suggestions for training days or session types please let a committee member know and we will do as much as we can to accommodate.
We are very happy to say that membership is still increasing and we have approximately 80+ at present. If you are a new member do take advantage of your Free half hour lesson with Caron, also please come along to clinics either with your four legged friend or on foot to just meet the other members.
The demo put on for members as a thank you for volunteering was a great success. Russell Guire came with his camera technology and funky jackets giving each member a series of exercise to do. He then filmed this in extreme slow-mo, playing it back instantly for the riders to see and analyse. All riders over the two days gave positive feedback regarding his training and comments. We look forward to possibly having him back again in the Autumn, where members will be able to book into one of his sessions. Price to be obtained.
Quite a few members have been taking up this new challenge.
British Dressage (BD) has just launched a new competition for riders of all ages and abilities called ‘Team Quest’ . They are looking for riders at Intro, Prelim and Novice to take part in a fun and relaxed dressage competition – even if you’ve never competed before. Teams of three or four riders will ride as individuals across the three test levels (any combination) and the best three scores count towards an overall team total, highest percentage wins the
day. Points are then carried forward in a league table.
We hope that by joining a riding club it will give you the confidence to go out and enjoy the varied competitions that the horse world has to offer. Again let me know of your achievements.
If you have any suggestions for future social events please let a committee member know.
Recently we had a very enjoyable Curry & Tarot night at Nic Davis house. Around twelve members turned out to enjoy a lovely feast that Nic had cooked, we all paid a small fee to cover the cost of food and some members then went on to have their cards read and were very pleased with the outcome.
We are hoping to hold an event later in August / September possibly in the form of Barn Dance/ Disco and hope that all members will come along to enjoy the evening. Keep your eyes open for further information over the coming weeks.
We hope you will be inspired to give the qualifiers a go & hopefully gain a place at one of the championships.
