NAF National Championships

Winter Championships
The Winter Dressage and Novice indoor Show Jumping are team events only. It is open to both Junior and Senior teams who compete over two separate days.

In the dressage, two members of the team must ride a Prelim test and two members
must ride a Novice test. The tests will be Prelim 13 and Novice 28. In the show
jumping, both the Senior and Junior teams compete (on their relevant days) over
a course of 80cm. This is increased by 5cm in the second round. There will then
be a jump-off if teams are tied for first place.

NAF Festival of the Horse Challenge
The format of the Festival has undergone many changes with the introduction of the Festival Challenge in 2009. This competition is designed to be a test of a horse and rider’s ability to negotiate a show jumping course together with a cross-country course. The Challenge consists of seven to ten show jumps followed by fifteen to twenty-eight cross-country efforts, which may include up to three dressing fences in the Junior and Senior Pairs Championships (optional at Area Qualifiers). Qualifiers will be run at Club and Area level to give members the maximum possible chance to qualify.

There are six challenge classes:
•Senior Intermediate
•Junior Intermediate
•Senior Novice
•Junior Novice
•Senior Pairs
•Junior Pairs

The NAF Festival of the Horse Combined Competition
2012 saw a new version of the BRC Combined Competition. We are pleased to announce that riders now take part in the more commonly-known Combined Training.

It will be a team-only competition with two team members taking part in the Novice section, riding Prelim 14 in the dressage and show jumping 75cm. The other two members will take part in the Intermediate section riding Novice 27 in the dressage and show jumping an 85cm round.

Competing in the Combined Training in either section does not prohibit you from taking part at another level in the pure show jumping. The same horse and rider combination must complete both phases of the competition and elimination from one phase will result in elimination from the other.

Although only teams compete at the area qualifiers, highest placed individuals will also be invited to the championships from each section. The winning team will be decided from the best three scores in both phases. Tests are available from the BHS Bookshop.

SEIB National Horse Trials Championships
This is a competition for both Senior and Junior teams and individuals. The event consists of Dressage, Show
Jumping and Cross-Country phases.

There are five classes for members to compete in:
 •Senior Novice
•Senior Intermediate
•Senior Open
•Junior Novice
•Junior Intermediate.

At the Championships the Senior Intermediate and Senior Open takes place over three days, with the addition of roads and tracks and steeplechase phases to the cross-country day. The Senior Novice takes place over two days, with roads and tracks and steeplechase included. The Junior Novice and Intermediate takes place
on one day only.

European CIC**
The European CIC** Championships feature phases in dressage, cross-country and showjumping. Riders compete in teams of six, though each country may also enter two individuals. The competition runs over four days, with a different test on each day. The first test is the team dressage in which all six riders perform together. This is followed by individual tests in dressage, cross-country and showjumping.

The winning team is the team with the fewest penalties over the three phases, counting the scores from the top four competitors in each team. All team members also compete in the individual championship.

The event was formerly known as the Rural Riders after a mistranslation of the German name.
The next championships will be held in 2013.

Caron represented SDRC in this event in 2005, so it would be nice to see another SDRC member representing Team GB in the near future - calling all budding eventers!

NAF National Championships
Riders can compete in Dressage, Riding Test, Show Jumping and Style Jumping.

Dressage
The Championships include a wide range of Dressage classes for both team and individuals. Juniors may ride in Junior Novice, Junior Teams of Four and Junior Pairs Dressage, while Seniors can enter Senior Open,
Senior Novice, Senior Pairs, Senior Teams of Four, Senior Rural Riders and a Medium Dressage class for individual Seniors. All team members are automatically included in the appropriate individual classes.

Riding Test
The Riding Test is similar to a Dressage test, but marks are awarded according to the rider’s performance, and the horse’s paces are not considered. For Senior teams two members ride the advanced test and the other two ride the novice test. Junior team members all ride the same test.

Show Jumping

For the Show Jumping competition, Juniors may ride in the Novice class at 80cm or the Open class at 95cm. Seniors have the choice of riding Novice at 85cm, Intermediate at 95cm or Open at 1.10m.

Style Jumping
Style Jumping is similar to Show Jumping, but marks are based on the rider’s performance rather than the horse’s.
The maximum height of fences for the Junior and Senior competitions is 85cm at the Qualifiers and Championships.

BE80(T) Championship

You will find BE80(T) classes, with a maximum cross country height of 80cms, a great introduction into the sport if you want to begin Eventing.

British Riding Clubs BE80(T) Series
BRC and British Eventing will once again be running the BRC BE80(T) Championships in 2013.  This Eventing series is especially for Grassroots BRC members and sees qualifiers throughout the BE calendar, culminating in a Championship at Brooksby Melton College on 28-29 September 2013. The series will also give BRC members a taste of BE Affiliated competitions and give them access to more competition opportunities.

How do I qualify?

Important: All riders wishing to be eligible for this series MUST be a BRC Member by the date that the times are published for the qualifier event. If you are a new BRC member, please make sure that your Clubs’ Membership Secretary sends us your membership details ASAP so that you can be added to our database
before this date.

Every section of BE80, from 1 March to 3 September 2013, will be a qualifier for the BRC BE80 Championship (see below).

BRC members and horses must be eligible to compete in BE80(T) classes (see BE Rule Book). BRC members can take part in the BE80 series by either becoming a BE member, or by being in possession of a BE Training Pass. Training Passes can be purchased online from the BE website and cost just £10 for horse and rider.

To qualify for the BRC BE80 Championship, riders must be one of the two highest placed BRC members, achieving a clear round cross country in each BE80(T) section.

BRC members may take part in as many qualifying competitions as they wish, however, once qualified, any subsequent qualification will pass down the line if the combination compete in any further BE80(T) competitions.

How do I know if I have qualified?
BRC will write to the qualified riders within 14 days of the qualifying event taking place. These details will also be published on the BRC website.

Dressage to Music Championships and SEIB Quadrille Selection Trial

To compete in the Championships you must be a music member of British Dressage.

The Championships will include six classes:
Senior Elementary Dressage
Senior Novice without Points
Senior Novice with Points
Mixed Pairs Dressage to Music
Junior Prelim Dressage to Music
Junior Open Dressage to Music
Quadrille

If you enjoy competing in dressage, why not try quadrille? The display is set to music with a team of four riders wearing themed costumes. The display should demonstrate horsemanship but doesn’t necessarily have to be based on dressage movements. The selection trial is held in October at the British Riding Clubs Dressage to Music Championships. Four teams are selected to go through to the Championships at
Olympia.
